MOCA Brings In Takashi Murakami

All you art lovers in the Los Angeles region mark your calendars because Takashi Murakami is coming to town. From October 29, 2007 until February 11, 2008, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) will present key selections and bodies of work from Murakami’s extensive collection.

The Andy Warhol of Japan is known for his combination of fine art and pop culture. He gained fame for his cartoon-like, “superflat” style and not to mention his collaboration with Louis Vuitton’s artistic director Marc Jacobs. The two recreated the legendary Louis Vuitton Monogram in 33 colors on a black or white background in 2003. This collection not only broke sales records, but became the most counterfeited products on the black market.

The Moca features a mini Louis Vuitton store which is selling Murakami’s collection for the luxury brand. We caught up with the artist at the MOCA for a gala thrown by Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs in celebration of his exhibition. Check it out!
